Waiting in the American Fork Temple Lobby

All three of my kids were married in a Mormon solemn ceremony. The most recent was 3 years ago when my eldest son married in the American Fork Temple. The wedding caused a bit of a local sensation. Both the bride and groom are identical twins. For the honeymoon, the pair were headed to Seattle where my future daughter-in-law was to undergo brain surgery.

A Day in Cairo, Egypt

I had been in Egypt for almost 3 weeks and was not feeling well, my head was suffering flu-like symptoms. But there were still a lot of sites in Cairo that I wanted to visit before returning home the next day. I didn’t feel like traveling around Cairo alone, so I asked the grumpy hotel manager to line me up with a guide. I was a little leary about what I might get, given the price quoted was so low.

“Sing, Sing, Ye Saints”

I attend Mormon Sacrament Meetings on an irregular basis. In our Ward the music is a bit problematic. There seems to be an emphasis on singing a wider variety of hymns. This frequently causes problems for both the organist and the chorister. Frequently, songs that are intended to be sung vigorously end up sounding like funeral dirges.

Embracing Spiritual Doubt

Mormon Fast-and-Testimony Meeting (FaTM) is a struggle for me on several levels. The meeting is supposed to consist of members standing and bearing witness to the veracity of various pieces of church doctrine. Members are expected to profess near-perfect belief in Mormonism’s core tenets.
